The four-day ITMA Asia + CITME 2025 exhibition in Singapore brought together textile and garment manufacturers, suppliers, and technology partners from across 30 countries. Oritain was on the ground meeting textile leaders and professionals to understand their needs and how they are preparing for new sourcing expectations from buyers and regulators.

At our booth and private drinks reception post-exhibition, we heard a lot of questions about traceability, transparency, and compliance. Some of the questions that came up most often were:

  • How can we ensure traceability for materials like cotton, in line with evolving regulatory expectations and brand requirements?
  • How can we get better control over cotton yarn to ensure compliance?
  • What’s the most effective way to position our due diligence as a core part of our brand story?
  • How can we prove that our finished goods are from our own raw material and not mixed with other blends?
  • How can we provide customers with verified evidence that the cotton sourced by our mills matches their claims?

These questions and our conversations across all tiers of the supply chain show that manufacturers are realizing that merely tracking production processes is not enough to satisfy buyer requirements or regulatory expectations. They need to verify their data to win buyer trust and command better terms in premium markets.

Here are the key insights from our direct conversations with manufacturers that further reinforce the importance of origin verification.

1. Engagement across the entire supply chain

One of the most significant outcomes from ITMA Asia was our engagement with spinners at the earliest stage of the supply chain, alongside fabric mills and garment makers (Tier 3 to Tier 1). This goes to show that traceability is now a shared responsibility across all tiers. Manufacturers acknowledged the importance of proactive verification to maintain integrity and protect their reputation.

2. Increased regulatory scrutiny

Retailers and authorities are placing a bigger emphasis on transparency and accuracy in supply chain information, particularly in key markets such as the US and EU, which enforce stringent regulations for textile imports. With initiatives like the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) and similar EU approaches, manufacturers recognize that providing verified traceability information is crucial for accessing high-value markets and ensuring smooth export operations. They are aware that CBP is setting up its own isotopic testing labs in Savannah, Long Beach, and Newark to verify the claimed origin of goods, creating an urgent need for robust, evidence-based verification.

3. Brand trust and commercial advantage

Verification is increasingly recognized as a strategic advantage. It empowers manufacturers to demonstrate ethical and sustainable sourcing backed by science, positioning them as proactive and reliable partners. This capability resonates strongly with brands seeking suppliers who can provide evidence-based transparency.

Verification also opens up opportunities for exclusive partnerships and collaborations with like-minded brands, boosting sales and visibility. Such efforts can lead to long-term contracts and a stable flow of orders, further solidifying the manufacturer’s success in an increasingly competitive market.

4. Traceability as a core priority

Manufacturers now view forensic origin verification as critical, recognizing that paperwork alone isn’t secure enough. Many saw Oritain’s solution as a complementary layer of assurance, adding scientific credibility and confidence to their compliance frameworks. This verification helps them meet evolving buyer expectations, strengthen internal quality control, and demonstrate a proactive commitment to transparency and integrity across their supply chain.

5. Direct partnership with Oritain adds value

Many manufacturers emphasized that a direct partnership with Oritain would help them:

  • Increase visibility of their supply chain verification
  • Gain ownership of verification reports for internal and external use
  • Access localized support and dedicated account management from our APAC office in Singapore

This feedback highlights that our partnership is a commercial differentiator that strengthens relationships and enhances market positioning.

6. Expanding the verified ecosystem

Another key insight came from a mill partner who asked for a list of other verified mills they could source from if the need arose. This really shows how traceability is no longer viewed solely as a vertical responsibility across tiers, but as part of a broader, interconnected network of trust. Verified businesses are now seeking to work with other verified partners, demonstrating the growing value of a dependable ecosystem that supports responsible sourcing and builds mutual confidence across the supply chain.

These insights clearly show that conversations are shifting from why traceability is important to how to implement it effectively, and Oritain is well-positioned to lead this transformation. For solutions tailored for your business, contact us today.
