Oritain Bolsters US Leadership, Appointing Former CBP Assistant Commissioner Dave Fluty as Executive Director, Forensic Science

Oritain is pleased to announce the appointment of Dave Fluty as Executive Director, Forensic Science, based in Houston, TX. In this role, Dave will spearhead the strategic direction, credibility and impact of Oritain’s forensic science capabilities across North America, cementing the company’s position as the global authority in forensic origin verification and supply chain integrity.

Dave joins Oritain following a distinguished 30-year career with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Prior to his retirement in 2025, he served as the Assistant Commissioner, Laboratories and Scientific Services where he led more than 350 chemists, engineers and forensic science experts to support CBP’s 46,000-armed law enforcement Officers and Agents.

As a celebrated leader at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Dave earned the prestigious Presidential Rank Award for his leadership, contributions and commitment to public service and CBP’s Commissioner Award for Exceptional Service and Best Practices and Innovation.

As Executive Director, Forensic Science, Dave will bridge the gap between forensic science and commercial strategy, ensuring Oritain’s technology and approach remains the foundational “source of truth” for regulators and global businesses alike.

Dave will report to Oritain’s Chief Scientist, Professor Russell Frew, and join Oritain’s Technical Advisory Group, alongside members from AIA, Agroisolab and Imprint. The Technical Advisory Group was formed in 2025, following the company’s lab expansion across Germany, Austria and France.
