This June, dashing gents Rupert Hodges, Stew Whitehead and Ben Tomkins will represent Oritain in the Duchenne Dash. What does that mean, exactly?
Duchenne Dash: The Challenge Ahead
Quite simply, this means that three relatively novice cyclists will mount their bicycles and ride all the way from London to Paris within 24 hours. With minimal experience and maximal determination, Rupert, Stew and Ben will cycle almost 300 kilometres through bruises and battering winds to raise money for Duchenne UK and the young boys suffering from the incurable form of Muscular Dystrophy.
What Is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy?
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a rare and aggressive strain of muscular dystrophy which effects young boys. Onset can be as early as age 4, and boys with DMD can often no longer walk by age 12. The condition is rapid and devastating: beginning with those in the legs, hips, shoulders and pelvis, the condition attacks voluntary muscles throughout the body.
Why Are We Riding For Duchenne UK?
Duchenne UK needs your support now for funding treatments, accelerating research into a cure and providing advice and support for sufferers of DMD and their loved ones. Professionals in the field believe that with adequate funding and indomitable determination, we can find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy within 10 years and restore strength to the young boys from whom it is robbed.
Join The Fight
That’s why each member of our team has a fundraising goal greater even than the goal of finishing the race itself. If you’d like to join Rupert, Stew and Ben in the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, please dig deep and donate to this worthy cause at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/OritainUK.
